The Story of Late
Discovery Adoption

Can you imagine finding out you are not who you thought you were? That the most basic things about you and your family were not as you’d been told, not true? A myth. A lie. Your whole life a lie. Imagine learning that you were switched at birth and you should have grown up with your real parents — not the ones who raised you.

DIRECTOR'S STATMENT

Like many screenplays, Myth of the Ghost Kingdom began as an accident. For several months I had been researching potential ideas for a screenplay when I stumbled upon an essay written by a late discovery adoptee. Their story was deeply personal, filled with moments of intense vulnerability and some of the most universal themes at play - identity, loss, and family.

The journey of discovering one's true identity is a deeply personal and transformative experience. Myth of the Ghost Kingdom is an attempt to authentically explore the poignant and tumultuous path of late adoption discovery. Abbie's story is not just about uncovering secrets but about the profound quest for belonging, identity, and the enduring quest for self-understanding.
